Scheduled domestic, regional and international passenger services as well as freight services in Namibia are provided by Air Namibia. The airline is based in Windhoek and was founded in 1946 as South West Air Transport. The main hub airport for the international services of the airline is Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport. Also, the domestic services of the airline have their hub at a smaller airport which is Windhoek Eros Airport.
After the founding, the name of the airline was changed first to South West Airways in the year 1959 and in 1978 again to Namib Air when it underwent a merger with the company. It was in 1991 that the current name was given to the airline. Air Namibia airlines have a fleet of 7 aircrafts and cover around fourteen destinations. In Africa, destinations like Angola, Botswana, South Africa, and Zimbabwe are covered in addition to the local destinations of Namibia. Also London and Frankfurt are also covered by the Air Namibia airlines.
The fleet consists of 2 Airbus A340-300, 3 Beechcraft 1900D and 2 Boeing 737-500 aircrafts. These aircrafts provide short and medium haul as well as long haul journeys to cover the destinations mentioned.
