Based in Panama City, Copa Airlines was first recognized on 21 June 1944 and was founded with assistance from Pan American. It started operations on 5 May 1947. Copa Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Panama. It began operations with domestic flights operated by a small fleet of Douglas DC-3 and Douglas C-47 aircraft. In 1960, the airline started its first international flights and in 1971, it became wholly Panamanian owned. Till date, the expansion of this airline is continuing and today it boasts of services to a number of destinations worldwide.
The main hub of Copa Airlines is Tocumen International Airport.
Copa Airlines currently flies to 42 destinations in 22 countries in North America, South America, Central America and The Caribbean.
