Previously called Salisbury, Harare is the capital of Zimbabwe and the home to around 2 million people. Harare is the largest city of Zimbabwe and is also a centre for commerce and industry. Tobacco, maize, cotton, citrus fruits etc are some of the items for which Harare acts as a trade centre. The main concentration of people is in central Harare. Harare falls in the warm temperate region of the world’s climatic zones. The climate is very pleasant and healthy too. The city is located on a higher altitude which makes it cooler than the usual temperatures of the tropics. The average temperature annually is around 17.95 degree Celsius. Three seasons are there which include a warm season which is wet too, in the months of November to March/April. From May to August, the season is cool and dry due to the effect of the southern hemisphere winters. September/October though have a hot and dry season. Rainfall is highly variable from year to year and also from season to season.
