Earlier called Petrograd and then later Leningrad, the city of St Petersburg is the second largest city of Russia after Moscow. The last ten days of the month of June are the longest days in the year. During these days, the White Nights celebrations are made in St Petersburg. The event is a cultural extravaganza which has music, dance, theatre, and other art performances that really represent the culture of the city. Also, there is an annual international documentary, short and animated film festival that takes place in June or July. It is called the Message to Man festival. May 9th has an annual veteran parade where people from all spheres of life take part in this parade.
